About Sue Park Broadway

Sue Park Broadway was born and raised in Madisonville, Texas, a small ranching community north of Conroe, Sue attended Sam Houston State University, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi, Panhellenic Rush Chairman, Freshman Class Secretary, and Who’s Who in Colleges and Universities. She married her high school sweetheart, Ron Broadway, a Marine serving duty in Vietnam, in 1965. Ron and Sue moved to the northeast Houston area after Ron returned from Vietnam in 1966.

She began teaching second and third grade in the Northeast School District in 1966 and continued to teach until her daughters, Shannon and Shelby were born. Ron Broadway’s job with the FAA transferred the family in 1973 to New Jersey and later Petersburg, Virginia. As a stay-at-home mom, Sue was able to be involved in the PTO and parent groups at the Virginia school Shannon attended. When the family moved back to Texas in 1978, they relocated to Oak Ridge North. Mrs. Broadway began her journey with Conroe ISD when she enrolled Shannon and Shelby in grade four and kindergarten at A. Davis Ford Elementary. Both daughters would later graduate from Oak Ridge High School, marry and reside with their families in the Oak Ridge area. In 1978 Mrs. Broadway served as a parent volunteer at the Ford library and began to substitute teach for the Ford staff. In 1980, Mrs. Broadway’s Conroe ISD teaching career began as a second grade teacher at Ford where she quickly moved into the role of team leader, In the fall of 1985, she became the assistant principal at Ford Elementary.

During the next six years, she encouraged the implementation of innovative teaching strategies to support each student’s unique learning style. Then in 1991, Mrs. Broadway accepted a new position as principal at Roark Primary School in the Willis School District. In 1992 she returned to Ford Elementary as principal. During the next eight years as principal of Ford, she met many new challenges. Tremendous population growth, a new addition to Ford Elementary, and rezoning the Ford/Oak Ridge Elementary neighborhoods created new challenges for Mrs. Broadway, Ford Elementary and the community. In the fall of 2000, she accepted the principalship at Houser Intermediate.

The 2001-2002 school year was memorable as she led the successful transition of Houser Intermediate to Houser Elementary. While serving as a principal at CISD, Mrs. Broadway was an Elementary Principal Representative to the Superintendent Cabinet, represented Oak Ridge Feeder Schools at the District SIT Committee, served as District Odyssey of the Mind Coordinator, was a member of the Facilities Planning Committees, and was a member of the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association. After 25 years in education, Sue Broadway retired from CISD in 2003 to spend time with her grandchildren.
